Flinders Ranges: Port Augusta to Wilpena Pound. September 13, 2013.

Friday, September 13th (Stephen's birthday!)

It bucketed down again during the night, which made for a very noisy night. After packing up we headed for the local Woolworths to stock up on fresh food and supplies for the 8-day trip to Alice Springs. We drove through Quorn and Hawker on the way to Wilpena.

Just before Hawker we stopped to have a look at the Yourambulla Caves (Aboriginal Rock Art).

On this short walk we realized that there was one critical supply that we failed to buy in Port Augusta but fortunately was in massive supply in Hawker, and that was fly-nets to go over our hats.  We had forgotten how bad the flies were in Australia, and where we were going it wasn't going to get better, on the contrary. The moment you step out of your car flies are there buzzing around your face in droves.

After a walk around Wilpena Pound Resort and Campground and surrounding area we cooked dinner and then went to the resort pub for a birthday drink for Stephen.
